Vietnam Hanoi Railway Transport Company (HRT) has opened a refrigerated container train to transport fresh seafood from southern provinces to Đồng Đăng station in Lạng Sơn province Province on the northern border, and then to China.
The train consists of 22 carriages and can accommodate 40 foot containers.
At present, it takes 72 hours from Pingyang Station to Đồng Đăng station. The railway system is being upgraded and transportation time will be shortened in the future. Due to stable and timely service costs, more and more enterprises are choosing intermodal freight services.
Lam Nhat Dan, General Manager of Van Hoa Group using refrigerated container trains, stated that the company exports 50000 tons of goods annually and therefore looks forward to safe, high-quality, and fast transportation methods. Land and sea transportation procedures are complex and expensive, and refrigerated container trains departing from Pingyang Station can help reduce costs.
A representative of a company specializing in exporting seafood to China stated that if shipped by sea, the transportation cost accounts for approximately 10% of the product value. If it is air freight, the cost will double. With the new railway, the travel time will be shortened, and the export trade of local agricultural/aquatic products will be more competitive.
