According to SalmonBusiness, a consignment of chilled Nordic salmon was processed in central China before being re‑exported to Canada.

Upon arriving at Ezhou Huahu International Airport, the salmon was cleared by customs and transported to a nearby processing plant for procedures including heading, de‑boning and packaging, before being air‑freighted to Vancouver within 36 hours.

According to the Hubei Provincial Government, this marks Hubei’s first case of re‑exporting imported seafood raw materials after local processing.

Data from Ezhou Customs shows that Huahu Airport imported more than 7,000 tons of salmon in the first half of 2026, representing a year‑on‑year increase of 218.1%.

The airport has established direct supply channels with major salmon‑producing regions including Norway, Iceland and Chile.
