On June 12, the 18th China (Fuzhou) International Seafood & Fisheries Expo (FIFE) opened at the Strait International Conference and Exhibition Center. The three‑day FIFE drew to a close on the afternoon of June 14, yielding substantial results.
Despite persistent rainy weather on June 14, the final day of FIFE, local residents thronged the exhibition halls for final‑round shopping sprees.
Exhibitors rolled out promotional offers, with stalls filled with vendors’ calls and bargaining chatter. A representative from Minyu Hui greeted visitors warmly: “Madam, this pack of sea cucumbers is originally priced at 150 yuan. Order now and you get two extra ones — it’s a real bargain!” Ms. Lin, who bought sea cucumbers, commented: “FIFE boasts a huge variety of aquatic products at great value. It’s perfect for stocking up during promotions.”
At the booth of Lianjiang Juhaiwan Enterprise, a 200‑kilogram Spanish bluefin tuna was filleted by professional chefs for retail sale, drawing crowds of shoppers.
Yunya Enterprise from Qujing, Yunnan, offered free tastings of Bodhi pumpkins and high‑mountain small potatoes. Mr. Huang, its exhibitor representative, noted: “This is our first time joining FIFE. We hope this platform helps more people in Fujian get to know Yunnan specialties. Fuzhou locals are incredibly welcoming, and the booming show atmosphere is truly encouraging.”
The Russia National Pavilion also enjoyed massive foot traffic. According to Mr. Yang, its Chinese liaison officer, all goods there are directly supplied via official China‑Russia cooperation channels. Its offline retail store “Katyusha” has already opened in Fuzhou’s business districts including Yuanhong City and Shangxiahang. During FIFE, the pavilion secured long‑term partnerships with major distributors from Shanghai, Tianjin and other cities, paving the way for more Russian food imports to China.
Over 500 enterprises from more than 30 countries took part in this edition of FIFE, setting new all‑time records for exhibition scale, number of exhibitors and product diversity.
More than merely a showcase for fishery progress, the expo serves as a vital platform to connect global resources, deepen production‑marketing collaboration and celebrate marine fishery culture, delivering tangible results across multiple dimensions.
Expanding Fuzhou’s fishery network: Long‑time participants returned while new exhibitors made their debut. International exhibitor participation hit an all‑time high. Türkiye took part for the first time, bringing seafood such as sea bass, gilthead seabream and rainbow trout. Events including the inaugural Fuyu Seafood Hotpot Festival and the First Fujian Young Chefs Culinary Skills Competition were held. Exclusive consumer vouchers titled “Joyful Shopping in Fuzhou · Fuyu Offers” were distributed for the very first time to attendees.
Expanding industrial cooperation networks: Fisheries Week and FIFE offered an important platform for Ningxia‑Fujian collaboration, Hainan‑Fujian cooperation, the Fuzhou‑Matsu “One‑City Living Circle” and the Fuzhou Metropolitan Area development. Hainan staged its first large‑scale group exhibition and sealed multiple cooperation deals with Fujian. The Fujian‑Taiwan Fishery Integration Zone created a venue for Taiwan fishery enterprises to exhibit, network and negotiate.
Expanding access to premium aquatic products: On June 14, FIFE hosted the award ceremony for “Gold‑Medal Products · Gold‑Medal Enterprises” plus Outstanding Organization Awards. Altogether 140 “Gold‑Medal Enterprise” titles and 324 “Gold‑Medal Product” titles were conferred to drive aquatic product branding and raise public recognition of high‑quality offerings. Award‑winning local Fuzhou enterprises included Fujian Xiangbin Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Fuzhou Xuhuang Food Co., Ltd., and Fuzhou Baiyang Seafood Co., Ltd. Standout Fuzhou gold‑medal products comprised Guanyu Small Kelp, Xiangbin Frozen Abalone Meat, and Haixin Fuzhou Fish Balls.
Fisheries Week and FIFE exemplify Fuzhou’s drive to build a national marine‑economy demonstration zone. According to expo sources, Fuzhou has maintained the country’s top fishery output value for 31 consecutive years. Its gross marine product ranks first in Fujian Province and among the top nationwide. The city holds 12 national geographical‑indication products including Fuzhou Fish Balls, Fuqing Manila Clams, Lianjiang Abalones and Lianjiang Kelp, and has earned ten national‑level fishery honorary titles such as “China Capital of Fish Balls” and “China Capital of Marine Gastronomy.”
